Rodrigo, Britten, Vivaldi esce nel maggio del 1964, questo disco è il frutto di diversi incontri musicali. Bream incontrò la Melos Chamber Orchestra col direttore Colin Davis registrando col produttore James Burnett il Concierto de Aranjuez di Joaquin Rodrigo. Con il Julian Bream Consort registra invece The Courtly Dances from Gloriana di Benjamin Britten e il Concerto per Liuto e Archi in Re maggiore RV93 di Antonio Vivaldi.

Rodrigo, Britten, Vivaldi was released in May 1964, this record is the result of several musical encounters. Bream met Melos Chamber Orchestra with conductor Colin Davis recording with producer James Burnett the  Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquin Rodrigo. With the Julian Bream Consort instead he recorded The Courtly Dances from Gloriana by Benjamin Britten and the Concert for Lute and Strings in D major RV93 by Antonio Vivaldi.

Prima puntata del nuovo programma radio su Radio Voce della Speranza dedicato alla chitarra del grande Julian Bream, questa sera alle 21 ascolteremo la sua prima incisione discografica per la RCA avvenuta nel 1960 con musiche di Girolamo Frescobaldi, Domenico Scarlatti, Domenico Cimarosa, Lennox Berkeley, Joaquin Rodrigo, Maurice Ravel e Albert Roussel.

First episode of the new radio program on Radio Voce della Speranza dedicated to the guitar of the great Julian Bream, tonight at 9 PM (italian hour) we will hear his first recording for RCA in 1960 with music by Girolamo Frescobaldi, Scarlatti, Domenico Cimarosa, Lennox Berkeley, Joaquin Rodrigo, Maurice Ravel and Albert Roussel.

Review of Rodrigo The Three Guitar Concertos, Regis, 1994

Very, very beautiful indeed this cd produce by Regis that contains the three concerts for guitar by the great Joaquin Rodrigo. The players of these precious jewels set in a bright diadem bright, famous passages as the Concierto de Aranjuez, the Fantasia para un Gentilhombre and the Concierto para una Fiesta are the guitarist Alfonso Moreno and State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra directed by Enrique Batiz.
The cd is simply great and both the soloist and the orchestra are well direct and in complete harmony in the execution of these concerts with their Hispanic imprint. I think would be useless to stop on a concert as the Aranjuez, so famous and important not only in the classic repertoire having  influenced composers and interpreters of other musical genres like the genial Gil Evans and Miles Davis in the their immortal Sketches of Spain. And I think the same for the Fantasia para un Gentilhombre made immortal and devoted to the great Segovia, in his memorable recording for the Deutsche Grammophone.
I didn't know the Concierto para una Fiesta and it has been pure pleasure to listen to it.
The amazing thing is however the fact of the temporal distance among these three compositions: Aranjuez was composed in 1939, Fantasia in 1954 and Fiesta in 1983 ... yet I don’t feel a great distance and not this temporal jump. In a certain sense it is like as if Rodrigo had continued on the same temporal line, as if the time didn't care for him keeping on finishing up an only marvelous music or passage. Listen to you them in sequence without interruptions, they are almost 70 minutes of pure pleasure. It’s the warm and sunny Spain that speaks.

Recensione di Rodrigo The Three Guitar Concertos, Regis, 1994

Davvero molto, molto bello questo cd uscito per la Regis che racchiude in se i tre concerti per chitarra del grande Joaquin Rodrigo. A eseguire uno dietro l’altro come gioielli preziosi incastonati in un diadema brillante brani famosi come il Concierto de Aranjuez, la Fantasia para un Gentilhombre e il Concierto para una Fiesta sono il chitarrista Alfonso Moreno e la State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra diretta da Enrique Batiz.
Il cd è davvero una goduria e sia il solista che l’orchestra sono ben diretti e affiatati nell’esecuzione di questi concerti dalla così forte impronta ispanica. Penso sia inutile soffermarsi su un concerto come l’Aranjuez, così famoso e importante non solo nel repertorio chitarristico a tal punto da aver influenzato compositori e interpreti di altri generi musicali come i geniali Gil Evans e Miles Davis nel loro immortale Sketches of Spain. E penso altrettanto per la Fantasia para un Gentilhombre resa immortale e a lui dedicata da parte del grande Segovia, nella sua memorabile incisione per la Deutsche Grammophone.
Non conoscevo invece il Concierto para una Fiesta ed è stato puro piacere ascoltarlo e assaporarlo.
La cosa sorprendente è però il fatto della distanza temporale tra queste tre composizioni: Aranjuez è del 1939, la Fantasia del 1954 e la Fiesta del 1983 … eppure tra i tre non si avverte (o almeno io non mi rendo conto) di questo salto temporale. In un certo senso è come se Rodrigo avesse continuato sulla medesima linea temporale, come se il tempo non importasse o non contasse niente continuando a rifinire una unica musica meravigliosa. Ascoltateli pure in sequenza senza interruzioni, sono quasi 70 minuti di un unico piacere. E’ la Spagna calda e assolata che parla.
